Belmont-Cragin’s Early Childhood Center is touted as an innovative, Reggio inspired Preschool. In 2011, the center was awarded NAEYC accreditation, which is the highest accreditation that can be given nationally to any preschool. It has also received the Gold Circle of Quality; a designation given statewide which recognizes “early childhood programs that meet or go beyond the highest ExceleRate Illinois Quality Standards.” (ExceleRate Illinois). The center continues to partner with Crossroads to implement the Reggio Emilia Approach to orient, guide, and cultivate the intellectual and social emotional potential of children through long term studies based on students’ interests. This approach has a foundation in parent and community involvement, where families, community members, and teachers work alongside the students in the process of exploration and inquiry. The process of exploration is cultivated by engaging the students in social interactions and allowing them to negotiate everything that the classroom environment has to offer.
